Key Responsibilities:
• Prepares analysis and/or contributes to the development of appraisal reports to be used in the process of valuation for assessment and other purposes
• Prepares property tax and assessment analysis and/or contributes to the development of reports on variances and anomalies for a variety of clients
• Conducts detailed research and accesses relevant information from various resources and can write and synthesis a reasoned and logical analysis
• Works with immediate and senior level professionals who will provide mentoring, direction and peer review of work
• Updates internal database systems regularly and accurately to ensure that current data and research is available for client files
• Participates in site inspections as required
• Accurately completes time sheets daily ensuring accountability for time spent on daily activities. Records team member time usage as required

We are currently seeking an experienced Paralegal to support a team of property tax professionals based in Toronto, Ontario.  AEC is offering a flexible, supportive work environment with a competitive compensation package.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain, analyze and provide a cursory review of working papers that support an assessed value
  • Complete property inspections with assessment officials and client representatives
  • Deliver the appropriate feedback and reporting to lead project managers in an effort to support recommendations and/or provide the necessary information necessary to successfully negotiate and/or review findings with assessment officials
  • Industry or property specific research, including property information and inspections and land use and area calculations

This role is the key to ensuring the timely availability of data and document management, tax reporting, tax analysis and written reports. The Administrative Coordinator will receive and upload all incoming relevant documents to applicable AEC systems. In addition, the position ensures accurate property tax invoices from various clients and reports same to client. With keen attention to details, the Administrative Coordinator will ensure the appropriate and timely distribution of information to staff and clients, online filing is correct, tax reports are accurate and completed in an appropriate timeline and in compliance with AEC policy.

The Administrative Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

• Enter and upload property tax and assessment notices for clients;
• Complete client authorizations as required in each municipality;
• Complete required documentation and file tax appeals as required for each municipality (i.e. portals);
• Follow-up with municipalities via phone on property tax related matters;
• Keep track of deadlines and complete work ahead of internal deadlines;
• Enter information into web databases;
• Invoices preparation and reporting to client on a monthly basis;
• Create tax projection reports for clients;
• Create tax installment reports for clients;
• Report on tax and assessment variances and anomalies;
• Support in analysis, report preparation and writing;
• General office duties;
• Work closely with teams to provide support;

The Senior Consultant will provide a variety of property assessment and tax consulting services for various projects to new and current clients with very limited review. The ideal candidate successfully manages relationships and partners with other business units to identify opportunities and maintain synergy.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage projects relating to assessment review and appeals for AEC's national and regional clients.
  • Maintains an up to date knowledge of tax legislation, and industry trends.
  • Provide quality service and maintain ongoing client relationships that lead to opportunities for renewal, referrals, and new service offerings.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives used in developing additional regional or national clients. 
  • Mentor analysts to enable them to achieve results for clients and bridge pathways to growth.
  • Maintain records consistent with AEC's technology platforms dealing with time and billings (timesheets), project management software, and other tools utilized by AEC.
  • Participate in negotiations with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation.

Educational and Professional Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in business, real estate, or economics preferred. Additional educational background relating to property assessments, property appraisals, and property tax administration is considered an asset.
  • AACI, AIMA/MIMA considered an asset.
  • 7+ years of proven experience in property tax assessment or appraisal.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial property valuation and assessment.
  • Experience in negotiations and preparation for Hearing settings.
  • Experience in leading evidence with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation and the Assessment Review Board.
