AEC Paralegal Professional Corporation is a national property tax advisory firm providing assessment and tax management services as well as implementing tax minimization strategies for owners and occupiers of commercial, industrial and multi-residential real property. We are currently seeking an experienced Paralegal to support a team of property tax professionals based in Toronto, Ontario.  AEC is offering a flexible, supportive work environment with a competitive compensation package.


  • Obtain, analyze and provide a cursory review of working papers that support an assessed value
  • Complete property inspections with assessment officials and client representatives
  • Deliver the appropriate feedback and reporting to lead project managers in an effort to support recommendations and/or provide the necessary information necessary to successfully negotiate and/or review findings with assessment officials
  • Industry or property specific research, including property information and inspections and land use and area calculations
  • Assessment management support
  • Litigation support which may include attendance at hearings, preparation of litigation documents including statement of issues, replies, mediation briefs
  • Participation in project planning including clarification of tasks and estimation of resources required and timelines
  • Presentations - internal/external with appropriate approval
  • Assists with client management
  • Assists in the development of plans and strategies


  • Paralegal license is a requirement
  • Formal education at the community college and/or university level is considered an asset as is the completion and/or current participation in industry specific designations as offered through various post secondary institutions
  • Minimum of five years experience in the realty tax and assessment field
  • Knowledge of property tax/assessment and property valuation is preferred
  • Experience in assessment and taxation policies & procedures
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, be proactive and flexible and meet deadlines
  • Good analytical and reporting skills
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Competency in industry accepted software tools and research systems is expected of the successful candidate

Key strengths required for this position include:

  • Ability to organize and focus in an environment where there are multiple projects on the go at any given time
  • Desire and ability to learn and develop within the realty tax assessment field and willingly accept additional responsibility including interacting with assessment officials and clients alike
  • Ability to identify and prioritize key valuation / classification issues and/or in working with senior project managers develop this skill such that issue identification and reporting of same forms for the foundation for approach and mindset to supporting the review and negotiation process

Ideally candidates will have had previous exposure to a consulting environment and worked in a team setting where the results and expectations were set and met with various members of the team participating and each participant is able to contribute at a level consistent with their individual strengths.

  • Préparer les prévisions budgétaires de taxes foncières pour nos clients;
  • Agir à titre d’expert auprès de nos clients en matière immobilière et dans le domaine de la fiscalité foncière;
  • Participer au développement des affaires;


Connaissances, formation et aptitudes requises,

  • Baccalauréat en administration des affaires, option immobilier;
  • Détenir le titre professionnel É.A ou AACI;
  • Au moins 10 ans d’expérience pertinente;
  • Bonne connaissance de la Loi sur la fiscalité municipale du Québec;
  • Maitrise des logiciels Excel, Argus et Word
  • Autonomie, esprit d’analyse et de synthèse;
  • Capacité de bien communiquer par écrit et verbalement;
  • Esprit d’équipe, sens de l’organisation et bon jugement;

This role is key to ensuring the timely design and enactment of creative marketing campaigns, organization of client events and continuous development of effective marketing strategies that are key in supporting the success of our practitioners.

The Sales and Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

  • Support key personnel in prospect identification, research and proposal activities
  • Booking sales meetings, reporting on prospect activities and scheduling of same for key personnel
  • Managing timelines and consistency in account management and support in context of client reporting
  • Assist in drafting proposals, reporting letters, marketing and sales materials
  • Information systems management specifically in the context of ensuring accuracy and inclusion of key dates, required information and ensuing documentation is handled and administered effectively to support needs of sales and marketing activity
  • Basic website updates and maintenance, overseen with IT team
  • Assist regional sales staff based in remote locations
  • Additional responsibilities may include coordinating the submission of proposals, planning meetings, tracking sales progress, troubleshooting minor technical problems, managing or supporting outbound telemarketing campaigns, processing expense reports, maintaining department database records and serving as a liaison between various office

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of marketing and/or operations experience
  • Business Administration or Marketing degree or diploma considered an asset
  • Previous experience in the real estate /realty tax and assessment industry considered an asset
  • Strong computer and organization skills required
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated experience in being proactive with proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to follow through and a proven track record of organizing and systematizing dynamic and often complex work environments is crucial to the success of this role

The Senior Consultant will provide a variety of property assessment and tax consulting services for various projects to new and current clients with very limited review. The ideal candidate successfully manages relationships and partners with other business units to identify opportunities and maintain synergy.



  • Manage projects relating to assessment review and appeals for AEC's national and regional clients.
  • Maintains an up to date knowledge of tax legislation, and industry trends.
  • Provide quality service and maintain ongoing client relationships that lead to opportunities for renewal, referrals, and new service offerings.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives used in developing additional regional or national clients. 
  • Mentor analysts to enable them to achieve results for clients and bridge pathways to growth.
  • Maintain records consistent with AEC's technology platforms dealing with time and billings (timesheets), project management software, and other tools utilized by AEC.
  • Participate in negotiations with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation.
  • Prepare Disclosure Reports and Expert Witness Reports.
  • Lead evidence in Hearing settings in front of the Assessment Review Board or other tribunals while maintaining the integrity of AEC's brand and the interest of our clients.
  • Other tasks as assigned by AEC's senior management team.


Educational and Professional Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in business, real estate, or economics preferred. Additional educational background relating to property assessments, property appraisals, and property tax administration is considered an asset.
  • AACI, AIMA/MIMA considered an asset.
  • 7+ years of proven experience in property tax assessment or appraisal.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial property valuation and assessment.
  • Experience in negotiations and preparation for Hearing settings.
  • Experience in leading evidence with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation and the Assessment Review Board.
  • Maintenance of continued professional development courses.
