For a third year in a row, Alberta's Municipal District of Greenview will maintain their mill rate reduction for industrial ratepayers.
As in 2016 and 2017, council elected to preserve tax rate of 2.7000 for Residential/Farmland properties, and 7.8280 for all Non-Residential assets in response to a lower commodity environment. Additional details and the MD of Greenview's full council meeting highlight release can be found in Bylaw No.18-791.
This does not necessarily mean your taxes will be on par with those of 2017, however.
New this year to Greenview’s Tax Rate Bylaw is the Designated Industrial Properties (DIP) requisition mill rate, added at a rate of 0.034178 to all qualifying properties. Established by the Government of Alberta through the implementation of the Modernized Municipal Government Act, Designated Industrial Properties include:
- linear property such as wells, pipeline, railways, telecommunications and electric power systems;
- “major plants” such as large refineries, upgraders, pulp and paper mills; and
- properties regulated by the Alberta Energy Regulator, National Energy Board, and Alberta Utilities Commission.
Additionally, assessment changes and provincial education rates may still mean an increase on your 2018 tax bill.
Non-Residential taxes will be due on June 30, 2018, while Residential/Farmland taxes are due on November 15, 2018.
