Alberta's Municipal District of Greenview will maintain their mill rate for industrial ratepayers year-over-year. This means that, like last year, council elected to preserve a 7% industrial tax rate reduction, which was originally applied to 2016 property taxation in response to the lower commodity environment.
Greenview's council meeting highlights state that "Bylaw 17-780 Tax Rate Bylaw was approved following second and third reading. The bylaw maintains the 2016 mil rates of 2.7000 (Residential/Farmland) and 7.8280 (Non Residential)“. Further details and the MD of Greenview's full council meeting highlight release can be found here.
While the tax break is welcome news to industrial property owners struggling with low oil prices again this year, the 7% reduction does not necessarily mean your taxes will be on par with those of 2016. Assessment changes and provincial education requisiton rates may still mean an increase on your 2017 tax bill.
Taxes will be due on June 30, 2017.
