British Columbia 2016 Tax Rates Finalized

The following is a list of 2016 property tax rates for most of the major markets in BC, which include the 2016 tax rates for Class 6 (Business/Other), Class 1 (Residential) & Class 5 (Light Industrial).

The table also includes a Class 6 vs. Class 1 comparison, highlighting the difference in 6 vs.1 rates for each jurisdiction.  Sorted from the lowest discrepancy, this year’s winner is Prince George with a rate variation of 2.08 times, while 2016’s “worst offender” is Coquitlam with a commercial tax rate 4.45 times higher than their residential rate.

Alberta Energy: MD of Greenview lowers Industrial mill rate by 7%

 The Municipal District of Greenview No. 16 – one of the largest municipalities for oil and gas activity in Alberta – announced last week that council chose to reduce the mill rate in 2016 for industrial ratepayers in consideration of the current economic climate.

Calgary & Edmonton 2016 Tax Rates Finalized

 

This week, both Calgary and Edmonton have finalized their 2016 Property Tax rates. As anticipated, we will be seeing increases, with the exception of Calgary Business Tax rates. 

Calgary's Non-Residential Tax Rate saw the steepest increase at 12.3% over 2015, while Edmonton's Non-Residential Tax Rate saw a more modest increase of 1.4%.

City of Calgary Assessment Announces 2016 Advance Consultation Period

The City of Calgary recently mailed letters to all non-residential business and property owners regarding the Advance Consultation Period (ACP) for the 2016 taxation year. ACP is an opportunity for owners and their authorized agents to obtain preliminary 2016 assessment values and open discussions well in advance of the finalized values being mailed out in January of 2016.

This year, the Advance Consultation Period will run from October 6 – November 6, 2015.
