Calgary's 2017 Tax Rates Finalized

The CIty of Calgary has finalized 2017 tax rates and, as expected, rates continue to climb. This year's combined overall tax rate for non-residential property is 0.0177445, up from the 2016 rate of 0.0159346. This works out to an approximate 11.4% increase year-over-year.

Calgary's finalized tax rates are as follows:

In 2017, City council approved the Municipal Non-Residential Phased Tax Program (PTP), a one-year program put in place to assist non-residential properties affected by large shifts in market value. Under the PTP, non-residential tax increases will be capped at 5% and will be applied automatically to the tax bill of eligible properties - there is no application required. Eligibility and program highlights can be found on the City's website . To estimate what you would save, if eligible, you can access the City's Revenue Neutral Tax Calculator . The calculator will be updated by the City in the next few days, now that the provincial tax rates have been set.
Business taxes are considerably lower in 2017 due to the Business Tax Consolidation (BTC), which will phase out business tax completely by 2019. To learn more about the BTC and access the City's online BTC calculator, please access their page .
2017 property tax bills will be mailed out on May 26 and are due June 30.
